WOMEN COMPETING FOR HIGHER STAKES.(Sports)

A year ago, they all conceded. They set Lynn Jennings free and watched her fly.

Saturday, Jennings again plays the queen but at higher stakes and with a promise from those who will confront her in the 10th Run for Women: a higher price will be exacted in '88.

"I'm going out hard and running with anyone else who's running hard," Lisa Welch-Brady said.

"You have to be right with her and equal her kick," Lisa Weidenbach said. "I'd like to be really strong."

The Run for Women, sponsored by Freihofer's and which serves as the U.S. 10,000-meter road championship, begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Empire State Plaza. It will bring together nearly 1,700 elite athletes, recreational and handicapped runners and another 200 small children in a day-long event that is part competition and part celebration.
