Fed: Lawrence urges support for Aboriginal Children's Day
It's National Aboriginal and Islander Children's Day today, and opposition indigenousaffairs spokeswoman CARMEN LAWRENCE is encouraging people to join in the celebrations.
Dr LAWRENCE says the day celebrates the achievements of young indigenous people andis an important opportunity to examine and tackle some of the challenges they face.
She says young indigenous people have less access to pre-school education, are morelikely to leave school early and have a significantly lower life expectancy than otherchildren.
Dr LAWRENCE says it's time the HOWARD government addressed these issues with a greatersense of urgency and purpose.
