Vic: Cycling champion's bail revoked over alleged threats
MELBOURNE, Feb 11 AAP - Former world cycling champion Stephen Pate had his bail revokedtoday after again allegedly threatening his wife.
Pate, 38, was granted bail on 16 charges on November 25 last year after two allegedassaults on his wife in their East Bentleigh home earlier that month.
He was released on condition he not contact his wife or go within 200 metres of thefamily home and also comply with an earlier intervention order.
Prosecutor Jack Vandersteen told the Melbourne Magistrates Court today Pate had contactedhis wife at 10.30am yesterday, intimidating and harassing her.
At 7am today, Pate allegedly made further contact with his wife.
Pate, who appeared in the body of the court, did not oppose the application to revokehis bail and was immediately remanded into custody.
Last year, the same court was told Pate was accused of punching his wife in the headand body, threatening her with a knife and shaking her violently while she tried to escapehim and call police.
Pate was a dominant figure in track cycling in the 1980s and 1990s, winning the worldprofessional sprint championships in 1988.
Magistrate Dan Muling has remanded him to appear on February 25 when he is expectedto make a new application for bail.
