VIC:Rock fishing safety warning after deaths
Safety measures for high-risk rock fishing will be tightened after a coroner found
the deaths of three fishermen in Victoria were entirely preventable.
The recommendations come after two Chinese nationals and a Cambodian man drowned when
they were swept off rocks while fishing in regional Victoria two years ago.
Coroner HEATHER SPOONER has said people from non-English speaking backgrounds need
to be better educated about the dangers of rock fishing and signage needs to be easier
to understand.
She's also said fishers should also be encouraged to wear life jackets as this may
have saved the men.
