NSW: Father convicted, mother cleared, of poisoning daughters=2

During the trial .. the court was told the family was on the brink of destitution ..

but couldn't return home to Singapore because the father would've had to face charges
of indecent exposure .. dating from March 2004.

The court was presented with conflicting medical evidence on whether the depression
arising from their financial problems robbed the couple of the ability to determine right
from wrong.

In delivering his verdict .. Judge GRAHAM ARMITAGE found the father's lack of any history
of mental illness counted against him.

But he accepted the mother's long history of mental illness had impaired her reasoning.

The husband will be sentenced on February 23 .. while the woman's barrister has applied
for her conditional release under the Mental Health Act.
